“I don’t know him. I know who he is.”
In the iconic episode The Boyfriend, where Jerry and George meet former New York Mets baseball player Keith Hernandez at their local health club. Keith and Elaine end up splitting a cab after leaving the apartment.
Keith later asks Jerry if he could ask out Elaine, which leads to Keith taking her out on a date.
The scene following the iconic “I’m Keith Hernandez!” line has Jerry and Elaine are talking at his apartment as she is recounting her date.
Elaine remembers that Mookie was at the bar and asks Jerry if he knows him. He tells her that while he does not know him, he knows who he is. She says that Mookie is “such a great guy” and begins to tell Jerry that he is the one who got the hit…
Jerry interrupts her and says, “I know. He got the hit in game SIX.”
Why Did I choose this cards?

I would have liked to go with the 1987 Topps Mookie Wilson #625 as that would pair well with the whole “June 14, 1987” angle of the episode. Unfortunately I do not have this card. Next, I would like to have a 1986 Topps #315, or the 1986 Donruss #604 as that fits with Eline mentioning Mookie getting the hit in game six, which references the 1986 World Series between the New York Mets and the Boston Red Sox. However, I also do not own either of these cards.
I ended up choosing the 1989 Fleer Mookie Wilson #52 as it shows Mookie laughing which makes me think of him having a good time at the bar with Keith, Elaine and other members of the ’86 Mets.
Throughout the Seinfeld series there are countless references to the New York Mets, however this is the only mention of Mookie Wilson and his heroic “Game Six” 10th inning grounder that went through Bill Buckner’s legs leading to Ray Knight scoring the winning run in a 6-5 Mets victory forcing a game 7. The Mets defeated Boston 8-5 to win the World Series for only the second time in franchise history, the first being the 1969 “Amazin’ Mets” who defeated Baltimore 4-1.
